Decentralized video platform THETA.tv is partnering with cult TV company Shout! Factory as the business expands channels and content available on its platform.
THETA.tv has announced a range of partnerships in recent months including linking up with Cinedigm to offer a 24/7 anime channel called CONtv, as well as partnering with decentralized games platform Ultra.
In this latest move, Shout! Factory, which is the company behind television cult shows including Mystery Science Theater 3000, will operate its own channel on THETA.tv, as well as an MST3K 24/7 channel.
These will sit alongside a range of genres already available on THETA.tv, including classic movies from MGM Studios, live poker, live events from NASA, live-streamed virtual conferences, for example, BlockDown, Consensus by CoinDesk, Crypto Asia Summit, and Virtual Blockchain Week. The move is part of THETA.tv operator Theta Labs' plan to broaden content on the platform as it looks to challenge centralized providers such as YouTube and Twitch, and encourage more people to consider using a decentralized alternative.
ThrilledGene Pao, Shout! Factory's senior vice president, digital enterprises, said: "We're thrilled to be expanding our channel reach to the Theta audience."With timeless cult programming and dedicated fan bases, Shout! Factory TV and MST3K have demonstrated immense appeal to the gaming community, giving the viewer further reason to spend more time with the platform.
The news comes as Theta Labs continues to grow its content in the real-life and cryptocurrency genres.
Last week, the platform was supported by a range of cryptocurrency content creators with a combined subscriber base of more than half a million viewers, as it launched its video-on-demand service.
This allows content creators to upload videos to THETA.tv in the same way they would to Youtube.
Mitch Liu, CEO, Theta Labs, said: "We're excited to add Shout! Factory content including MST3K to our growing Theta Network premium content library joining our partners MGM, WPT, NASA and others.
"Their classic fan favorite films and TV shows are a perfect fit for the Theta user base. Now, even more global viewers can enjoy Shout! Factory content 24/7 while earning TFUEL rewards - a huge step towards Theta blockchain adoption."
